What if I get a copyright claim from TikTok?

If you've used licensed music in your video and it's been muted or blocked on TikTok, you’re not alone. While you have full rights to use the music through your subscription, TikTok’s auto-detection system may still flag your video due to its copyright policies.

Here’s what you can do if this happens.

Why Was My Video Muted or Blocked?

TikTok automatically scans videos for copyrighted music. Even though you have the right to use the track, their system may still flag it, leading to:
✔️ Muted audio
✔️ Blocked videos in certain regions

Workarounds to Avoid Muting or Blocking

Some subscribers have found success by:
🔹 Cutting their videos into 1-minute segments before uploading to TikTok

However, if your video still gets flagged, you can file a counter-notification to restore it.

How to File a Counter-Notification on TikTok

If your video was removed unfairly, follow these steps:

  1. Go to TikTok’s Counter-Notification Form (You can find this in TikTok’s Help Center under copyright disputes).
  2. Upload Your License as Evidence
    • Find your asset license in your My Downloads page.
    • Upload it in the "Evidence to substantiate your appeal" section.
  3. Use the Track’s Asset ID
    • If TikTok asks for a Case ID number, use the Asset ID from the track’s download URL.

Once submitted, TikTok will review your appeal, and if approved, your video should be restored.

While TikTok’s copyright policies can be strict, your music license gives you full rights to use the track. If your video is flagged, try segmenting your content, or if necessary, file a counter-notification with your license as proof.
