How To Unzip Downloads

It is so frustrating when you download a product, get ready to edit, and open it to a flurry of "missing files" warnings like these:

Fortunately, there are steps you can take.

First, are you on Windows?

On Windows operating systems, you have to unzip .zip files to be able to use the files contained within. You can unzip a .zip file from the file explorer by right-clicking it and selecting "extract all":

A window will open asking you where to save the extracted file, simply press "Extract" to extract it in the same directory as the .zip file (e.g. downloads):

Navigate to the project file (the example below shows an After Effects Project File - .aep file format) and double click on it to open. As long as you have the correct software installed on your computer, the template project should open after a few moments.

Please Note: Make sure you extract the whole package: moving an .aep or .pproj file away from the footage files will break the links. 👍

Here is how to relink media on each software:

If you are using macOS,

You can just double-click on the zipped file and the Archive Utility tool will unzip the files, creating a new folder of its contents beside the zipped folder.
